I must confess…I feel best when…

I feel best when I’m on holidays!

I must confess...I feel best when I'm on holidays! www.myhometruths.com

Gosh, haven’t the kids grown since our NZ trip two years ago?

And that’s where I am now. As you read this I’ll be road-tripping from Newcastle to the Gold Coast. We’re planning on spending a week touring the theme parks, visiting the beach, enjoying the amenities of our resort and tuning out from the world.

Which means I won’t be around much this week. It doesn’t mean I don’t care about your confessions, it just means I’m actually listening to my body (and my over-active mind) and finally taking a mini-break.

I haven’t taken a true break for a year now, not since we travelled to the US for our holiday of a lifetime (which was a year ago tomorrow – how fast did that year go?)

Since our return I’ve fallen into the habit of writing whenever I can, which means all hours of the day and night. Despite setting a schedule at the beginning of the year I haven’t been entirely successful at following it.

And so I tend to never commit to having a break – if I’m not doing something else, I feel the need to keep writing. So I do.

I need to step back and have a rest and recharge. I need to find a balance. I need to be okay with the idea of actually sitting still and doing nothing from time to time.

I know, what an amazing concept?!

So I’m looking forward to a week of being disconnected, to allow me to hopefully become more connected, to my family and to myself.

Follow me on facebook, twitter and instagram if you want to keep up with  our adventures over the next week. While I’m disconnecting from here I won’t be able to stop myself posting the odd photo or two over there 🙂

And feel free to answer the prompt, “I feel best when…” I may not comment on your post immediately but I will definitely do so once I’m back from my break.

Did I post enough pictures for you on instagram? Never fear, I will share more here too in future weeks. Once I can locate my writing mojo again. I think it’s still on holidays somewhere…

What’s a holiday? 🙂 This is the first time in years that I’ve had paid leave so I’m completely confused about what to do with it. I don’t think I can afford to go away so maybe staycations are in order.

    • Kirsty says:

Staycations can be as good as heading away. As long as you have a deliberate break from your everyday life (writing, etc) and enjoy movie marathons or book reading sessions or just sitting out in the sun – that will definitely help refresh the soul x

  3. Yay for recognising what you need and doing something about it. We women can be very good at putting our needs LAST…so enjoy some Kirsty time out too won’t you? Thanks for the prompt and don’t even think about commenting or staying connected on SM while you are relaxing. Denyse x

  4. I relax the most when I am camping. It takes me to be in an environment where there is very little to do and that’s when i finally chill.

    • Kirsty says:

I completely get that. We were still rushing about going to the theme parks but it was a rest for me from the blog and the pressure to write. I don;t think I realised how paralysed and stressed I was until I let it go and started to breathe again. It was definitely just what I needed!

Oh it sounds like you’ll be having a lovely time. I hope you get to have a bit of a writing and social media detox and have a wonderful time with your family!

  6. Enjoy your break. Hubby arrived home over the weekend from his latest trip to sea, the girls are also on school holidays. I took it as an opportunity to be completely social media free. Loved disconnecting and reconnecting with the family. As such, no confession from me this week.

  7. Tory says:

Good for you! I’ve loved seeing your pics – keep em coming!

  8. I can’t believe the US trip was a year ago already! Wow that’s definitely gone super fast. Hope you guys have fun on the GC we drove down there last week.

Next time I hope to catch up with some “locals” while I’m up that way. There’s definitely going to be a next time – we had a ball!

  9. I love holidays too and the chance to relax and not have to worry about everyday things. I hope you enjoy your holiday.

  10. Angelina says:

So glad you are getting what I’m sure is a much needed break! Mothers need to take care of themselves! I hope you have a great time.

    • Kirsty says:

Thanks so much Angelina. We had a lovely break away and I’m doing my best to ease back into things now I’m home. But I do secretly wish I was still away…

  11. Emmmmerz says:

It’s been awhile since I’ve participated, I hope my entry is ok.

    • Kirsty says:

Welcome back! I’m behind on the reading and commenting as I’ve just got back from holidays but I’m sure your post is A-OK! Thanks for taking the time to link up again x
