I Must Confess…my ode to christmas

This week’s confession is two-fold. One, I’m confessing to my state of christmas unpreparedness that seems to haunt me year after year. Two, I’m confessing to being a very dodgy poet!

Here’s my ode to christmas – can you relate?

My ode to christmas

Oh Christmas, you manage to sneak up on me every year

Startling me into half-hearted christmas cheer

I really wish you wouldn’t, you know.

For once I’d love to have early xmas mojo.

It would be so nice to be prepared instead,

Crackers purchased ready for hats on heads,

Wreaths and decorations all on the walls

And christmas baubles decking the halls.

Just think of the presents I should have already bought,

Wrapped and purchased, so full of thought,

Yet here I am in December 2014

with nary a present for anybody.

I love the silly season, I really do

So why do I find it so hard to prove?

I’m not a grinch, truly I’m not

But I just can’t get into it, it seems, that’s what.

I love christmas carols, I sing really loud

Of our photo with santa I am very proud

I enjoy the food, the sweets and the wine

So why do I find it so hard all the time?

Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’ll never change

Perhaps I’ll always miss getting xmas in range?

But nevertheless I’ll keep trying my best

To make christmas special in our little nest.

I think that’s the key, really I do,

It’s all about what christmas means to YOU

It doesn’t matter if you are prepared or not

As long as you share love and laughter with your lot.

So I will wish you all merry and hope you stay well

And send every christmas wish one can tell

To make sure the silly season is good to you

And to everyone else in your crew.

Merry Christmas Everybody!

Merry Christmas to you and your family Kirsty. Love the poem! I’m never organised for Christmas either, but then again I’m never organised, ever! I hope I’ll get back to my sadly neglected blog and join the confessions again in 2015. Life just seems to have gotten in the way. Sigh.

Very nice! I have bought presents but apart from that I’m not even in the mindset of Christmas, which is sad because I usually love this time of year!
