I Must Confess…I need some Xmas inspiration

I must confess. I am in desperate need of some Xmas spirit and inspiration. And it doesn’t help that lately Xmas has been the furthest thing from my mind.

I have been very much preoccupied with my parents over the last few weeks. Dad’s cancer diagnosis and his surgery (a week ago today) has been my main focus, together with being there for my Mum during his recovery and treatment.

While we still do not know for sure whether he will require further treatment, we do know that life will never be the same. We have entered a whole new world of “lary” tubes, cassettes, HMEs and stomas. A strange world where Dad needs to learn to breathe, swallow, eat, drink and speak again.

The last few weeks have been tough. I’ve been away from home, away from my family and away from normality. There is a certain level of stress always associated with hospital and that stress rises exponentially when you are thrust into an unfamiliar environment as well.

As a result, I’ve had no time or energy to concentrate on getting ready for Xmas. And we are hosting this year too.

Didn’t plan that well, did I?

Thankfully it’s not too big a deal – we are having an informal day with Nathan’s parents so it should be relaxed and easy and there won’t be too much pressure. However I still need to capture and channel some good old Xmas spirit before the day and given my current situation I’m not sure how best to go about that…

So help me get some inspiration. Share what you are doing for Xmas this year. Have you come up with some shortcuts or flashes of brilliance that might save me this year?

Please share!

  1. Have been thinking about you. Can’t believe you are hosting Christmas. I’ve been joking all week that Christmas is cancelled and will definitely be taking a rather low key relaxed approach to things this year.

Hoping you have a wonderful Christmas. Not sure if I will be around to link up next week but will try.

I wish I could offer some inspiration but I have very little too. I bet there are clever people out there who have something!! My only advice is to hang in there!!
Merry Christmas to you and Nathan and the kids. xx

Oh I am in the same boat! Moving house and then 2 days later hosting Christmas…stupid stupid stupid. My main suggestion is to pick very simply dishes that can be main ahead of time, and get people to bring things (food, drinks, music) to help out! Good luck and Merry Christmas 🙂

  4. We’ve got a very disjointed family (some people dont speak to others) so we’re having 3 different Christmas days this year. One the 23rd we’re going to T’s parents, the 24th is my family and the 25th will be at his sisters. It means today is the last day I have where I don’t need to be running around everywhere so I best get to wrapping the last of the presents! I totally forgot today was Monday, until I saw something pop up on G+ I totally thought it was Sunday, so I didn’t get my butt into gear and do a post for todays prompt!

My thoughts have been with you and your family Kirsty and I’m impressed you still managed this! No linkup from me this week, have lost a bit of blogging mojo and I fear I would be no inspiration as when I ask what is happening Christmas Day I get shrugged shoulder responses…..
