I Must Confess…I need some Xmas inspiration
I must confess. I am in desperate need of some Xmas spirit and inspiration. And it doesn’t help that lately Xmas has been the furthest thing from my mind.
I have been very much preoccupied with my parents over the last few weeks. Dad’s cancer diagnosis and his surgery (a week ago today) has been my main focus, together with being there for my Mum during his recovery and treatment.
While we still do not know for sure whether he will require further treatment, we do know that life will never be the same. We have entered a whole new world of “lary” tubes, cassettes, HMEs and stomas. A strange world where Dad needs to learn to breathe, swallow, eat, drink and speak again.
The last few weeks have been tough. I’ve been away from home, away from my family and away from normality. There is a certain level of stress always associated with hospital and that stress rises exponentially when you are thrust into an unfamiliar environment as well.
As a result, I’ve had no time or energy to concentrate on getting ready for Xmas. And we are hosting this year too.
Didn’t plan that well, did I?
Thankfully it’s not too big a deal – we are having an informal day with Nathan’s parents so it should be relaxed and easy and there won’t be too much pressure. However I still need to capture and channel some good old Xmas spirit before the day and given my current situation I’m not sure how best to go about that…
So help me get some inspiration. Share what you are doing for Xmas this year. Have you come up with some shortcuts or flashes of brilliance that might save me this year?
