Musical Musings A to Z: Songs beginning with O
I was on solo parenting duty the other week while my husband attended a work conference and I learnt a few things along the way:
1. I tend to do more around the house when Nathan is not here. I weeded the side of the house, vacuumed and mopped the floors and lots of other odd jobs that I’d been putting off. I think I can conclude that he is a huge distraction for me when he is around!
2. I didn’t get any writing done. Despite having two nights to myself, where could have just written up all my posts for the coming few weeks, I just didn’t feel the vibe. Instead, I caught up on some TV, including the first instalment of Death Comes to Pemberley (very cool) and just faffed about on social media.
3. I feel I need to take up the slack when he is away. In the face of one very determined pug who keeps making daring escapes from the yard, I taught myself how to use pliers (I have never used them before, which is really sad, isn’t it?) and I put together some makeshift barricades under our fences to keep the escape attempts at bay.
4. I don’t eat particularly well when on my own. Nathan is the cook in the house – he really is quite clever when it comes to making even the plainest of ingredients into a tasty meal. But I am not and, to be honest, I could not see the point for cooking a meal just for me. So I lasted on a combination of leftovers and takeaway for two nights.
Suffice to say that I’m pleased he arrived back home, safe and sound so we could have some quality time together as a family. And so I could eat properly again!
So without further ado, let’s get to the music this Sunday and continue on my musical musings A to Z quest. And if you want some more inspiration, check out my previous musical musings…
Only When I Sleep – The Corrs
Do you know this song is nearly 20 years old now? That has completely blown my mind! Anyway, this is my favourite Corrs’ song, by far. The melody, instruments and harmonies all work to give a haunting edge to this song. Very cool, even nearly 20 years on…
On Broadway – George Benson
And this classic from George Benson is now nearly 40 years old! I was introduced to George as a youngster – my parents had a couple of albums and played them quite regularly. His voice is so damn smooth and his guitar playing is just on another level. This is such a seminal 70s tune that has stood the test of time. So very cool 🙂
