Musical Musings A to Z: Songs beginning with M
It’s been a LONG time between drinks. I haven’t mused about music for over three months now – I think that’s the longest I’ve let the music lay dormant on the blog.
But it’s time to get my boogie on and reboot my musical musings quest through the alphabet. You can check out my previous musings here.
We are up to M, a letter with so many possibilities.
While I’ve been on my unintentional break from my musical musings I have discovered the awesomeness of iTunes radio. You can pick from one of their channels or make one of your own, based on your own musical tastes. For instance, I created one based on the music of Jamiroquai, which was pretty cool.
More recently, I’ve enjoyed the smooth grooves of the R&B/Soul channel. It has led me to purchase quite a few new tunes for my iTunes library and has given me quite a few hours of musical bliss to boot!
I’m featuring one of my new purchases today and one of my old favourites for your listening pleasure…
Motownphilly – Boyz II Men
This was my first introduction to Boyz II Men as a young and impressionable 16 year old back in 1991. I immediately fell in love with their harmonies, rhythms and R&B soul tunes. This song features a staccato bass line, a judicious use of strings and of course their amazing harmonies which made this a firm favourite way back then and still makes it a favourite for me now.
Makin’ a Movie – Ne-Yo
This just makes me want to dance and bop and move every time I hear it. A far more modern take on the R&B genre (released in 2010, nearly 20 years after Motownphilly) this song still features a killer bass line, string highlights and vocal harmonies – the hallmarks of any good R&B song worth it’s salt!
What songs would you have chosen for your favourites starting with M?
While I’m here, let me share the winners of the recent giveaways that were hosted by yours truly. A massive thanks to everyone who took the time and effort to enter 🙂
The winners are…
TRENDe-tatts giveaway – Diana O who made me smile with the notion of giving a no nuts tattoo to her BIL who recently underwent “the chop” – totally evil but bloody funny!
Myer Giftorium giveaway – Toushka Lee who horrified me with the tale of the worst present she had ever received – a USED roll-on deodorant from her great aunt with HAIR ATTACHED. OMG Toushka, I think you are more than deserving of a $30 gift voucher from Myer!!!
Congratulations! I’ll be in touch later today to grab your details and get your vouchers on their way.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the music this fine Sunday!
