I Must Confess…distractions…

So, you may have noticed that I forgot to initially set a prompt for this week. I have to confess I was rather distracted by Eurovision last week. Three nights of wine, twitter and communal enjoyment of the best of European songwriting* didn’t leave me time for much else, even my normal weekly confessional.

*not actually guaranteed to be the finest songwriting from Europe

But while that was an embarrassing oversight, it sort of worked out well in the end. It gave me a great prompt for us to use this week – what distracts you? I suspect we’ll come up with some similar things. The internet, social media, TV, books, etc. Or Eurovision in my case!

Distractions

I’m most distracted each and every day by my thoughts. Positive, negative, constructive and the plain old embarrassing. My mind is on overdrive 24/7 – it never stops. I’m always thinking, planning and reviewing. Even when I’m with others, my mind is still usually elsewhere, which is why I do tend to get called out on being distracted quite a lot.

For instance, I’m easily distracted by politics, the news and tennis – just ask my family when they try to gain my attention while any of these are on TV or in the news.

I’m also distracted by office gossip and the latest on dits at work. Just like I was back in school, when I received the same comment over and over in my reports…”If Kirsty applied herself more and talked less in class she would have a chance at reaching her potential.” I prefer to call it networking now but essentially, I have always enjoyed a good natter. Besides, building rapport and having open communication with others never hurts, does it?  🙂

It seems I’m always distracted when it comes to housework, cleaning and tidying. I start in one place and then, boom, the phone will ring or I’ll just jump on the computer for a “few minutes” and hours later, after beginning on another task, the first is still incomplete. I think we can all agree we can be easily distracted when it comes to household chores!

So what are your greatest distractions? What things should you take care to steer clear of when there are things to do and the pressure is on? Get it off your chest and enjoy the fun of sharing with friends as part of I Must Confess!

I had to mop the floor after a party we had on the weekend, and I was pretty much distracted by everything. It took me about four hours…(and that’s not a reflection of the size of the job!)

I have a to-do list at work and hide my tendency to be distracted (except when “networking”) but at home I would be distracted by the colour of the post-it note or by the pen not working or something else entirely – I am a lost cause in my own domain!!!

I’m distracted by the random comings and goings of my ‘husband’. Also credit card statements and builders who call me 5 minutes before school run.

great post – I was always one to happily distract myself x

Oh builders – they always pick the most convenient times to call or finally arrive, don’t they? BTW I agree that distractions aren’t always bad – distractions helped me out when I had my health scare a couple of months back. Hope you have some good ones to turn to as well x

I seem to have distracted myself from putting up curtain rails for two weeks now. I went to do it today… I assembled light fittings, then I needed lunch….

Oh yes! We have a curtain rail that has been sitting next to the window it needs to be affixed to since we moved in nearly 10 months ago now…suspect it will be still be there for some months to come 😉

  10. Hahahahahahahahhaahhah. It took me a very long time to read your post because *everything* you mentioned is a potential distractor for me and Happened This Weekend as I continued to be distracted from my TRUE TASK of reading magazines on the couch by such things as bickering kids, cleaning chores and pesky thoughts of all stripes. LOVE THIS – thanks!
