Musical Musings: Pharrell Williams
For my first musical musings post of the year I wanted to celebrate how upbeat I’m feeling as we enter the last weeks of January.
Our first family foray overseas went far better than expected. The kids loved exploring New Zealand, they began to get on a lot better and we all discovered that we could indeed enjoy activities as a family – it was such a positive outcome for us.
Coming home, the positivity has stuck around. We are eating together as a family, spending more quality time together and chores are being shared more equitably. It is a very welcome change for the better.
As a result, I am happy. Not just content or okay. But really and truly happy.
The two songs I am sharing today epitomise happiness, for me anyway. They are from the Despicable Me soundtracks and I have only just realised they are both performed by Pharrell Williams. I hadn’t paid his music much attention until now but I will definitely be checking out his back catalogue in the next few weeks.
Each of these songs are upbeat, with a retro feel and smooth harmonies. They are summery, fun and fresh – exactly how I’m feeling right now.
I only heard this for the first time the other day (I’m slow to new music these days) and I fell instantly in love with it. It really does make you feel happy hearing it – just perfect!
Fun Fun Fun
This has been one of those songs I have really liked for a while – every time the kids watch Despicable Me I bop along whenever this comes on. But I did not know who sang it until the magic of YouTube showed me it was another Pharrell Williams classic.
