Musical Musings: Sounds of Summer

Although the weather around here lately seems to have veered from hot to cold, today heralds the official start of Summer.

I LOVE Summer.

I love the warmth in the air and the freedom of the traditional Christmas holidays. I love laying on the lounge, lazing away under the cooling power of the air-conditioner, while watching the cricket and the tennis.

I love the feeling of lightness and brightness that Summer always brings – my mood is so much better in the warmer months – don’t you feel the same?

To mark the official start of my favourite season, I wanted to share a new and an old song today. For me, these songs epitomise the hope and promise and fun and energy of Summer.

Get Lucky – Daft Punk ft Pharrell Williams

I’ve heard this around for a little while and didn’t think much of it at first but now I love it. It’s light and funky and groovy – perfect Summer listening!

Starlight – The Supermen Lovers

Another upbeat song that just makes me want to wind down the window in the car and sing along at the top of my lungs. That’s what Summer means to me!

  1. For me, “Street Cafe” by Icehouse reminds me of beachside cafes and the surf rolling in on a hot summer’s day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oFBXxMsQzY

As does significant chunks of Midnight Oil’s discography, but you get that when you grow up in Newcastle during the 80s.
