Musical Musings A to Z: Z is for Led Zeppelin & ZZ Top
Well, we have reached the end of the line people. The last letter in my musical quest through the alphabet.
You can find a link to my previous posts here but here is a list of the various artists that made up my A to Z list: Rick Astley, Ben Folds Five, Cake, Doobie Brothers, En Vogue/Eternal, Aretha Franklin, Garbage, Hall & Oates, INXS, Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa Stansfield, Moloko, No Doubt, Oasis, Robert Palmer, Queen, Robbie Williams, Swoop/Simply Red, Robin Thicke, U2, Village People, Stevie Wonder, eXtreme, You Am I and Led Zeppelin/ZZ Top.
I have really enjoyed this journey and hope that you’ve had a bit of fun along the way too.
So to close things off this week I have chosen to feature two songs I really do enjoy from artists that may surprise you – classic rock gods Led Zeppelin and bearded rock gods ZZ Top.
I can imagine your surprise. Rock really isn’t my thing. But these songs are both classics, even though the bands themselves don’t count among my very favourites. When all is said and done, these songs most certainly rock!
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven
So much has already been written about this classic from people far more qualified than me to comment. It is a true modern day classic. For my part I love the softer acoustic guitar intro and the bridge in the first half (accompanying the lyrics “It makes me wonder”). Quick trivia – I can also categorically deny ever having tried to play the guitar intro – I never stuck at guitar lessons long enough to get there!
ZZ Top – Legs
This is a fun song. The guitar riffs in this are just so over the top – like their beards or their fluffy guitars in the video clip. This song reminds me of driving along the beach as a child and rolling the windows down (as you did back then) and just letting the music roll over you like the waves on the water. For me this really is a fun summer song.
So that’s it. We are at the end of my musical alphabet quest. Thanks to those that have taken the time to read or comment – I have loved reading your suggestions for the bands you would have included each week.
I will continue on with my musical musings posts and will look at doing another A to Z series next year. Maybe I’ll tackle the A to Z of songs next time?
Have an awesome Sunday people!
