Musical Musings A to Z: V is for the Village People

We are edging ever closer to the end of my alphabet quest and today we arrive at V. Click here if you are interested in checking out some of my earlier posts.

It wasn’t a hard choice for me today. I had to choose the Village People for my V artist as Can’t Stop the Music was my first ever album. It was a sad day when my younger brother broke it in half, on purpose, I might add. Goodness, it took me a LONG time to forgive him for that, I can tell you…

What was harder was narrowing down the songs I wanted to feature today.

The Village People really were the kings of disco and pumped out hit after hit in the late 70s/early 80s. Their songs are camp, kitsch, dated yet highly danceable.

They even made the leap to the silver screen, way before the Spice Girls or One Direction ever did. Channel 9 show the iconic Can’t Stop the Music film every New Year’s Eve, following their midnight fireworks coverage.

Yes, it is clear I have no life…

After some consideration and much reminiscing via YouTube, I’ve narrowed my choices down to 3 today.  I hope they get you moving and grooving today while we all recover from last night’s election…

I would love to know what you would have picked as your V artist. And more importantly, who was your favourite in the Village People? Mine, for the record, was the Indian…

Wow – blast from the past – I remember seeing that movie in the cinema – with my little brother. Love Can’t Stop the Music and my other fave of theirs is In the Navy. Loved the construction worker way back then, now thinking the lead singer/Cop is very cute – always liked his voice 🙂

Well we all have our musical skeletons in the closet…

Still, my V artist with an overwhelming majority of representation in my collection would be Van Halen. Runners up would be The Velvet Underground, v. Spy v. Spy (but I’d rule them out because I call them Spy Vs Spy, which is their original and intended name), Versus, The View, or even maybe Vanilla Fudge.

Got someone lined up for X yet?
