Musical Musings A to Z: Q is for Queen

Hello everyone! I’m back after a week’s break and ready to get back into things again – I hope you’re all ready for a big week too!

After a few stop/starts with the music posts I’m hoping for a big run home as we head down the back part of the alphabet. If you wish to find out more about my journey through the musical alphabet so far, check out some of my previous musical musings posts here.

We’re up to Q and I’m going to have to play some Queen for you today. I’ve featured them on the blog before but thought I would choose some different songs for your enjoyment today.

I am by no means a die-hard Queen fan but you have to admire their sheer brilliance, musical daring and amazing harmonies. There is definitely no other band out there and there is likely never going to be any other so dramatic and lyrical, or so hard rock and operatic.

Last time I featured Queen I shared “We Will Rock You”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Under Pressure” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which remain among my all-time Queen favourites. But I have included two more of my faves for your listening pleasure today.

Don’t Stop Me Now

This has been an earworm for me lately as it accompanies the an ad for “Australia’s Got Talent”. But it is classic Queen – melodic, harmonious and full of energy. The bass and piano work drive this song to the next level and the peerless harmonies of the band members is just mind-blowing.

Killer Queen

This is just an awesome song to listen to – so many little parts, so many modulations in tone and structure. A very clever song that showcases Queen’s depths of rock and pop – link here (embedding has been disabled for this one).

So, are you a Queen fan? If so, what would have been your picks for your favourites? Share in the comments below, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Have a fantastic week everyone!

I’m not a massive Queen fan (I’m more pop/funk/soul oriented myself) but they were a very talented group of musicians – I have to admire and enjoy their classic hits!
