Musical Musings A to Z: O is for Oasis

It’s Sunday again and time for another round of Musical Musings. Each Sunday sees me featuring my favourite artists as we travel along the musical alphabet. If you are interested, you can find my earlier posts below:

A is for Rick Astley

B is for Ben Folds Five

C is for Cake

D is for Doobie Brothers

E is for En Vogue and Eternal

F is for Aretha Franklin

G is for Garbage

H is for Hall & Oates

I is for INXS

J is for Michael Jackson

K is for Lenny Kravitz

L is for Lisa Stansfield

M is for Moloko

N is for No Doubt

It’s probably timely that we’ve come to O this week so I can feature Oasis, the band that topped last weekend’s Triple J Hottest 100 from the last 20 years poll, with their classic, Wonderwall.

Oasis was huge in my uni years, making the news for all the wrong reasons yet still delivering classic tunes. I loved their raw sound and the energy in most of their songs as well as the retro vibe that continually came through in their early years.

I have included my 2 favourites for you to enjoy today – do you have a favourite Oasis song?

Morning Glory

The high, dominating guitar riffs combined with the driving bass line make this my all-time favourite Oasis tune. I love it – I just want to listen to it again and again…

This really is a classic song. While many disagreed that it deserved the number 1 position in last week’s poll, I think it is definitely one of the best songs of the last 20 years. For me, the strumming of the acoustic guitar, the staccato drums and the low tones of the cello make this a true classic.

What would you have picked as your O artist?

Hope you can join me next time as I continue along my musical odyssey through the alphabet!

  1. I love all your music choices so far. We have very similar tastes. I’m just putting the finishing touches on tomorrow’s post and about to do a bedroom photo shoot because you possibly know me and my theory photos or it didn’t happen. It happened alright!

I’ve also finally kicked off my sharing is caring blog link up and as you are already on our ‘worth casing’ blog list, would love if you could pop over and link up.

I’m glad you’ve been enjoying my choices – I’m having a ball showcasing some of the artists I haven’t had the opportunity to focus on before!

  2. The shortlist I would have chosen from would have included:

Ocean Colour Scene, Oasis, Mike Oldfield, Roy Orbison, Offspring, OK Go, Opeth, Our Lady Peace, Outline, Outrageous Cherry, Ozzy Osbourne, Osibisa, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Operator Please, Okkervil River, Oingo Boingo, Sinead O’Connor.

If I had to choose, I’d run with Osibisa, because they’re just cooler than cool.

I will have to check out Osibisa – I’m sorry to say that 8 haven’t heard of them before. My other O artist would be Outkast – loved Hey Ya and The Way You Move…
