Musical Musings A to Z: F is for Aretha Franklin

Happy Easter everyone – I hope you are still conscious and have not yet fallen into a chocolate coma… 😉

I’ve congratulated myself  on my restraint so far this Easter break so I’m looking forward to rewarding myself with a little bit of chocolate plus the delights of a fruity hot cross bun later on today.

I’m also going to be enjoying the delights of the next stop on my musical journey through the alphabet. If you’ve missed my previous posts, you can find them here:

A is for Rick Astley

B is for Ben Folds Five

C is for Cake

D is for Doobie Brothers

E is for En Vogue and Eternal

We are up to F and I have chosen to showcase the legendary Aretha Franklin in my musical musings posts today.

She is, quite simply, an amazing performer and an unbelievable singer – she IS soul.

Respect
This song rocks. There is no other way I can describe it. I LOVE it when this song plays in Bridget Jones’ Diary when Bridget resigns and leaves Daniel Cleaver in front of the whole office – sock it to him indeed!

I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)

Aretha proves she still has the voice and the soul and George Michael proves that he has the talent to match her. This is one of THE best songs from the 80’s – makes me feel like singing at the top of my lungs every time I hear it!

Here’s to F for Aretha Franklin – make sure you come back next week to continue on my musical alphabet quest!

Spread the positivity!

Happy Easter! I select a theme song of the week on Sunday, although this week, a rather chocolate deprived friend who is helping out on the blog while I’m not 100% has gone with a chocolate carol. It should make for an interesting week.

  2. Ahh yes, the first lady of Soul. Gotta love a bit of Aretha. It may be a bit trite, but I love her track “Freeway of Love” – the soundtrack to many a primary school disco back in the day…

Freeway of Love is one of those classic 80’s songs, isn’t it? And yes, one of those songs always played at school discos and parties – along with Billy Ocean’s Get Out of My Dreams (well that’s my memory of them, anyway!)
