Thankful for Holiday Distractions

Yes, I am already thinking about the next school holidays.

Yes, I know we have just returned to school after the last school holidays.

No, I am not a glutton for punishment.

No, this thought process does not mean I am obscenely organised!

This week I am thankful for holiday distractions and the many options out there to keep the kidlets entertained over the long summer break. Because, my goodness, you need a few options in reserve to entertain children over the six long weeks of the summer school holidays…

So, why am I thinking about the next school holidays already? I have found with experience (bitter experience!) that it pays to do a little forward planning. Being a working mum, I don’t get the opportunity to spend all the school holidays at home so I need to make sure the kids (and my husband!) are sorted and organised well in advance.

Having kids on the autism spectrum who depend on routine also mean that we have to pretty much plan most holiday activities with military precision.  I need to know the how, the why, the what and the who as soon as possible – in this case, a few months out – so we can properly prepare the kids for what’s going to happen.

With this in mind I have already planned out my annual leave over Christmas and the summer holidays and have been giving some thought to the perennial question, “what should we do to keep the kids occupied, distracted and not bored over the summer holidays?”.

So when I heard that Disney Live! Mickey’s Rockin’ Road Show was going to be travelling around Australia during January I gave a silent prayer of thanks – I knew we had at least one guaranteed winner in the school holiday activity stakes!

Over the past 5 years we have enjoyed our annual outing to Disney on Ice every July so I’m pretty sure the kids will equally enjoy a live action concert featuring more of their favourite Disney characters on stage.

This year’s Disney Live! Mickey’s Rockin Road Show features Mickey and Minnie plus Tigger, Cinderella and Disney Pixar’s Woody, Buzz and Jessie as they embark on a talent search adventure filled with twists and turns and exciting encounters along the way.

Disney Live! Mickey’s Rockin Road Show will be at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on the 15th and 16th January 2013 and you can order tickets now through Ticketek (Ph.4921 2121 or go to www.ticketek.com.au).

However, for one lucky My Home Truths reader you may not have to order tickets at all. Keep an eye out for your chance to win tickets from November 5 – I promise it will be loads of fun.

To ensure you don’t miss out on the chance to enter, make sure you follow My Home Truths on Facebook and Twitter, and consider subscribing to the RSS feed or to email delivery – that way you’ll ensure you never miss a post again.

In the meantime, check out the Disney Live webpage to find out more about the show, see some cool photos and access activities for the kids. And remember to check back here on November 5 to find out how you could win tickets to one of the Newcastle shows.

Linking up with the last ever Thankful Thursday hosted by the amazing Kate.

You are an inspiration, Kate, and I have personally appreciated the chance to think upon my life and recognise all the things, big and small, that I should be more thankful for each week. I hope the linkup continues to be just as encouraging and successful in it’s new home.

Disclaimer (edited 13/1/13) – I was not offered monetary compensation to run this promotion and giveaway however I was offered complimentary tickets to one of the Newcastle shows.

Spread the positivity!

    Sounds like fun!
I only wish my Aspie lad would sit through a full stage show… I took him to the Wiggles and he asked to go home after half an hour! :-/

Well, Gilbert didn’t go to our last outing to Disney on Ice as it was on at night and I knew it would be too much for him so it’s not always going to be a winner for us.

But the girls can’t get enough of all things Disney so even if Gilbert isn’t up for it, they certainly will be!
