Musical Musings – 2005
Looking back, 2005 was a pretty good year. My favourite NRL team won the premiership (go the mighty Wests Tigers) and the AFL team I support also won the flag (I may not understand AFL but I understand geography – go the Sydney Swans!)
2005 was also the year I turned 30 and it was the year we welcomed our second child into the world – our Matilda Bear. In fact, it’s Matilda’s 7th birthday this week and I thought I should mark the occasion by playing some of my favourite tunes from that momentous year.
So, sit back and enjoy a small trip down memory lane – as always, feel free to weigh in with your favourites in the comments below.
I Just Want to Live – Good Charlotte
Ok, so technically this was released in 2004 but charted in 2005, so it counts! I don’t mind a bit of Good Charlotte – this song, together with 2007’s Dance Floor Anthem are by far my favourites – I do enjoy their punk/dance sound and that, particularly in this film clip, they don’t take themselves too seriously.
Don’t Phunk with my Heart – The Black Eyed Peas
I have documented my love for the Peas before but this is my favourite song from 2005’s Monkey Business so I had to play it again! Also, the film clip is hilarious – how can you not smile after watching this one?
(Don’t) Give Hate a Chance – Jamiroquai
As if I wasn’t going to showcase some of their work from 2005’s Dynamite…! Do you remember the little Italian character which would be drawn by a hand and then would get mad or would laugh uproariously depending on what happened next? It was called La Linea and was shown in between shows on ABC in the 1980’s – well this film clip takes inspiration from that – a little more of a walk down memory lane for you all today!
Gold Digger – Kanye West
I featured this song in my tribute to rappers earlier in the year but, again, it is too good not to re-share. Here’s some trivia for you too – Kanye West is the ONLY person I have ever unfollowed on Twitter – in the end I could not cope with the all or nothing self-indulgent ramblings he would clog my feed up with so I had to let him go…
