Musical Musings – Father’s Day Edition
Happy Father’s Day, one and all!
So far, for me, the lead up to Father’s Day has been…interesting. Firstly, I tried to send my father a card only to receive it back in the mail on Friday as their mail re-direction was still in place from when they were travelling. Well, at least I tried!
And then my son, after initially refusing to participate in making a card for his dad, changed his mind and then had a MAJOR meltdown when he thought he had left it at school on Friday afternoon. There was much searching, tears and tantrums until we happened to find it – thank goodness…
But, now all is in readiness for the big day – let’s hope the kids can resist waking their dad up too early on Sunday morning!
So, as it’s Father’s Day, I felt compelled to honour the day, the way I know best – through music. So here’s my picks for some of the best “dad” songs that I know and love.
Daddy’s Home – Montell Jordan
This is a beautiful song, full of emotion and fatherly love. The emotion is only enhanced by the simple piano accompaniment and Montell’s underrated vocals – one of my all-time favourites.
Papa Don’t Preach – Madonna
What can I say? Just enjoy a young Madonna singing a classic 80’s hit – I defy your toe not to tap in time to the music!
Father and Son – Cat Stevens
A poignant song that is as relevant now as ever – a perfect end to my Father’s Day inspired musical musings.
Hoping you all get the chance to be with or talk to the father figure in your life today.
And if that is not possible, I hope you have the opportunity to reflect on how important our dads and grandads are to all of us.
I know I’m sending out a big Happy Father’s Day to my father, my father-in-law and to my 2 grandfathers (both known as “Pop”) who are no longer with us. Thanks to all of you for being there for me and for guiding me so well. You are always with me, wherever I am.
