Musical Musings – Addicted to Bass
I confess, I love my bass. I really do. I love it so much I used to play the double bass in my high school orchestra and the one instrument I would love to learn right now is the bass guitar. But I once tried learning the acoustic guitar and came away with blisters and the sad knowledge that I really wasn’t as good in reality as I had imagined I would be!
So, I now leave it to the experts to get my bass fix and I’m lucky that there are so many fantastic songs out there to choose from. Here is a taste of some of my favourite bass heavy tunes.
Queen – Another One Bites the Dust
The bass riff drives this song and gives it power and intensity. It’s a cracker. One of Queen’s best.
Jamiroquai – Travelling Without Moving
This song has one of the most ambitious bass lines I have ever heard and is THE song I dream of playing one day, live somewhere in front of an audience. I just have to learn the bass guitar and become a master at it first…hmm…
Cake – The Distance
This is another song driven by a powerful bass line. I love this one in particular as it reminds me of some of the best times I had at university. You’ve gotta love those songs that take you back in time and remind you of fabulous times.
Thriller – Michael Jackson
Again, the bass is crucial to this song, considered by many to be one of the best pop songs of all time. It really is timeless, it certainly doesn’t sound like your typical 80’s pop song – well, I don’t think so anyway!
I hope these bass heavy tunes now have you all pumped up for the coming week – I know I’m pumped now!
