Home Build Update #3

This last week has been a big one for us. We finally took the plunge and committed to a house plan and a builder. It’s a great feeling to know that we are finally getting somewhere after months of deliberation and indecision.

And I’ll be honest, it’s a relief to finally have made a decision at all!

We have chosen to build a 2 storey home through Masterton Homes called the Villina. It has the open plan living area we crave looking onto a decent sized backyard. And it has a spacious master bedroom plus 3 EQUAL sized bedrooms on the upper level (you have no idea how many houses have unequal sized rooms for the kids – crazy!)

It is a pretty simple design but it will give us everything we need and every time we have visited the display home we have felt good. It feels right. It has “the vibe”, that elusive quality that I have been chasing all year. It makes me happy.

So now we have the fun of making even more decisions – deciding on the optional inclusions, the colours, the materials – all those individual choices that will add our personal stamp to the home.  Our home.

I’m sure we’ll have fun and I am looking forward to seeing how it will all unfold. But for now, after finally making a decision on what house we are going to build, I don’t want to over-complicate it by having to make even more decisions!

I would much rather sit back, relax and savour how far we have come.

And, of course, imagine how one day this:

may very well look like this!

  1. Your new home looks lovely. It must be so much fun making all those choices, although I imagine that they can become overwhelming.

Here’s to a painless building process!

Thanks Dprothy – I think it will be fun in the end making those choices but as I am so bad at making any decision there is an added element of stress for us too! We’ll have to see how we go…

  2. That is one lovely home. I and my husband are looking into building our own home too. We are currently renting and we both think that owning a home is a lot better choice than renting.
