Weight Watchers is working for me!

I have made no secret of the fact I am trying to shed some weight and lead a more healthy life.  So, to that end, I have joined a Weight Watchers at Work program and it has been a really positive step for me so far.

In the past I have tried and failed to lose the weight myself. While I don’t have huge amounts to lose, my healthy weight range, let alone my goal weight, always seemed beyond reach. It always felt way too hard and too much work so I never really got anywhere and would quickly revert back to old habits.

I have been pleasantly surprised by Weight Watchers and how easy it has fit into my life. I first joined back in 2001 and lost nearly 10kgs under their old points system so I knew that it was a tried and true system for me. The points system has been updated in the intervening years and is even better than it was all those years ago.

You are given a daily points allowance that you can spend in any way you wish (my allowance is 26) plus you also have access to an additional weekly pro points allowance of 49 points. These extra points can help cover you if you go out to dinner or you want to enjoy a few drinks or if you can’t break the chocolate habit.

I’ve found the system so good that I have been able to lose 5kgs over the last 7 weeks with minimal fuss or change to my life.  Sure I’ve been watching my portion sizes and making better choices when it comes to what I eat but that’s about it. It’s been easy to follow and I hope it will be equally easy to maintain in the long term.

I still have another 5kg to lose before I reach my healthy weight range and another couple on top of that to reach my goal weight. But I am half-way there and the more I lose, the more determined I am to get there, and more importantly, to stay there.

I must admit that I need to incorporate more exercise into my life and that’s one thing I haven’t been able to come to grips with yet. I know I will be a happier person if I can just find a way to squeeze in a walk everyday in between work and kid wrangling and housework. I will just have to find a way to make it happen.

So, I can fully recommend Weight Watchers if you are looking at a tried and true way to lose weight without giving up your life.  And, no, this is not a sponsored post. I’m just amazed at the ease in which I have finally lost some weight and adapted to a more healthy way of eating – so naturally, being a blogger, I just had to share!

    Well done!

    I simply eat protein now and have lost 29kg since late March.

    Boiled egg for brekky, salad and chicken for lunch, chicken or steak and salad for dinner.

    Sounds boring, but it works for me, and if it works… then stick to it, because you’re on a good thing.

      Well done – that’s an amazing effort Mark. I think I’ve found a sustained way to lose what I need to so hoping to get rid of those remaining kilos and keep them off. Having said that, there was a morning tea at work this morning…! The choc-caramel slice was too hard to resist!!!!

  2. That’s great Kirsty! Eating is more than half the battle. if you can incorporate some exercise I’m sure those last few kgs will shed quickly! I keep wondering why I’ve only lost 5kgs in 5 months and I am certain it’s because of the food I eat. I’ve been reading Michelle Bridges’ book and am starting to calorie count and control portions a bit better! Finding healthier snacks is key for me, I think. Keep up the great work!

      Aroha, I definitely think finding healthier options for snacks has been a turning point for me. I’ve written before about how I don’t really like fruit but I’ve been trying to eat more and I do feel better for it. Drinking lots of water has also helped me to feel fuller for longer and changing my breakfast from cornflakes to oats has also helped me eat less in the morning.

      I finally went for a walk this morning and feel fabulous for it – hoping I’ve now got my exercise mojo back after taking that fist step. Good luck with your weight loss journey too!
