Our Family Tradition

We don’t have many traditions in our family, which is a little sad, I have to admit.

But we do have one family tradition that the kids have come to count on every year – our annual visit to Disney on Ice.

It all started 5 years ago now when Matilda Bear was nearly 3 and wanted so desperately to go.

Up to that point we hadn’t really taken the kids to many events as we were uncertain how Gilbert would tolerate bright lights, loud sounds and the crowds.

Let alone the fact that we were uncertain whether he would see any of the show at all.

For that first year we took Matilda on her own. While she had a ball and we enjoyed some rare one-on-one time with her, we felt leaving Gilbert out was not the right thing to do.

So the next year we made the decision to roll the dice and see how he would go at his first major show. Despite some initial unease and a bit of sensory overload, he ended up loving it.

And ever since, without fail, we have made going to Disney on Ice our annual family tradition.

Last year was Delilah’s first foray and she loved it too, clapping her hands and laughing with joy throughout the first half until collapsing on my chest with happy exhaustion.

Knowing that all 3 kids have a high chance of enjoying themselves also makes the prospect of going to Disney on Ice one we look forward to as well (which is not something I can say for a lot of our outings…)

Lucky for us that Disney on Ice is again coming to Australia and will be in Newcastle June 21 to 24.

The theme for this year is “Let’s Celebrate” and sees Mickey and Minnie travel the world celebrating a range of holidays with a host of their Disney friends.

This year I’m even more excited as I will be able to offer a My Home Truths reader the chance to win 4 tickets to the Newcastle show on Friday 22 June at 7pm!

How cool is that?

Stay tuned for details of the giveaway which will begin on 7 May – I promise it will be loads of fun.

In the meantime, check out some of the wonderful characters that are part of this year’s extravaganza.

And don’t forget to come back on 7 May to find out how you can win tickets to Disney on Ice presents “Let’s Celebrate”.

Disclaimer – I have been offered tickets to Disney on Ice as part of this promotion and giveaway.

Spread the positivity!
