Thankful for the Finished Product!

As you know, I’ve been busy, busy, busy getting our house ready for sale.

I’ve cleaned up over 4 years of grime, chucked out copious amounts of crap (4 trailer loads to the tip so far and counting!) and have removed some bittersweet memories as we make the house ready for some new occupants.

I wrote a post a month back now confessing how bad my house had gotten – go on, have a read of the post before you read more here, okay? It will have far more impact that way, trust me!

Now that the house is ready to go on the market (our first open house is set for this Saturday – yikes!) I thought I should show you the finished product.

Are you ready? Here goes…

My Bedroom

My bedroom was messy and cluttered. We had so much stuff piled up against our window, and the crazy part was, none of it even belonged there! God I hope I don’t let things get that bad again…just don’t look too closely under the bed, there is still a few things to clear out from under there!

We also replaced the fan light and gave everything a good scrub – it almost looks like a showroom ready room, doesn’t it?

The Girls’ Room

The girls’ room was seriously cluttered. There were so many toys without a dedicated space so we had no choice but to send quite a few of them to the storage shed. The girls weren’t too happy about that but hopefully they will be reunited with all their toys sooner rather than later.

We also added some pretty sheer curtains and scrubbed and painted over the window sill to remove Matilda’s scribblings – they were cute but unfortunately they had to go.

The Boy’s Room

The boy’s room was, like the rest of the house, cluttered and untidy and in sore need of a thorough clean out. Looks much better now, doesn’t it?

I must add, the addition of the curtain was not welcomed at all by my boy. Like the last time we made a major change to his room (the addition of his much longed-for piano) he has refused to sleep in the room for the last two nights.

I’m hoping he’ll be happy to go back in there tomorrow night, but he has to accept change in his own time so it may take longer – let’s hope he can find sanctuary in his own room again soon.

The Lounge Room

I did post a before picture of the hallway but it’s still full of boxes at present so I have no after picture to show you just yet. So, instead I’ll show you my lounge room which didn’t have a picture first time around but I’m really proud of how it’s come together. And yes, that’s Gilbert glued to the TV – he’s watching his latest favourite DVD, Cars 2!

The Kitchen

We have re-painted the room, updated the handles, cleaned up the fridge, cleared the clutter and added a tablecloth and chair covers. I’m very pleased with the result!

The Bathroom

We splashed out and hired a painter to come and paint the kitchen, bathroom, toilet and laundry, plus all the skirting boards throughout the house. It has made a huge difference – most importantly I no longer have a mouldy bathroom ceiling – I just have to ensure I keep it that way!

Our Front Yard

The front yard was quite a bit of work but it looks so much better now that it has been planted out and weeded.

And this is our front verandah – much more inviting than what it was a mere 4 weeks ago!

Our Back Yard

We have finally tamed the backyard and now have a pleasant patio area to relax in – if only we had the time, between kid-wrangling, house maintenance and work to enjoy it…

So that is why I’m thankful this week for finally getting to the finished product. To see the result of 4 weeks of hard work. To finally be proud of my house. My home.

I’m joining in with Thankful Thursday hosted by Kate Says Stuff – what are you thankful for today?

Thanks Kyrstie. We have put quite a lot of work into it so hoping it does sell sooner rather than later – I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep up this insane level of tidiness!!!

  2. WOW!! Well done! It looks amazing! I popped over to have a look at the before pics, OMG. I started twitching! 😉 It looks so good, I can see why you are proud and thankful! Good luck with the sale!

The cleanup was something that was long overdue – I should never have let the house get into that state. Hoping the need to keep the house inspection ready will get me into a routine so I’ll never let things get into that state ever again.

  3. Awesome progress Kirsty! You have been super busy. Seems a shame to sell it now but wishing you a speedy and stress fee (as stress free as possible when selling a house) transaction. GOOD LUCK

    • Kirsty says:

Thanks Carly – I can’t wait for it to be over, not just for our sakes but for the kids as well. They are the ones feeling the stress at the moment, my son particularly. Hoping we get a good result sooner rather than later!

  4. Looks great Kirsty!! Well done! Wishing you swift sale vibes, hopefully we both get great offers very soon!

Thanks Nicole. We are really happy at how well it’s scrubbed up, it’s almost a pity that we have to sell at all (isn’t it that always the way!!!)

  6. Ash says:

Oh my goodness!!! And you still have the energy to blog after that marathon! It doesn’t even look like the same house as the one in your confessing post! It looks very inviting. I hope your little man sleeps in his room soon. Good luck for the sale!

    • Kirsty says:

Thanks Ash. Gilbert has now returned to sleeping in his room, thank goodness, and the house has never looked better. Pity I didn’t do this long ago…!

  7. Laura says:

Well done 🙂 It is looking awesome 🙂

Loved the first set – all the chaos and the neat and tidy kitchen – kinda how our house is.

    • Kirsty says:

Laura, I’m glad I’m not the only one with the neat kitchen and crazy house! I’m slowly getting used to having an entirely neat and tidy house, although it still looks weird to me – I keep feeling like I’m in someone else’s house!

  8. Andrew Smith says:

Wow! That’s a great looking house. You guys have worked hard. The pics made me smile.

    • Kirsty says:

We’ve worked damn hard Andrew – Nathan even broke a sweat quite a few times!!!!

Hoping all the hard work gets rewarded with a quick sale – fingers and toes crossed!
