What Kirsty Did Next
You may (or may not!) have noticed I have been a bit quiet around these parts lately. I have been busy around the house in my continuing quest to get it in order and ready for sale.
It has been a big job and we’re still not quite there yet, but we have made huge strides and I’m proud of what we have achieved so far.
Challenge 1 – Kids Off to School
The kids are still doing well at school, to our continuing disbelief and delight!
Most days I feel like I’m holding my breath, waiting for something to happen to shatter this dream start to the school year.
I do need to learn to relax and start to accept that this might just be the norm, that my kids may have finally found their place at school, that we have indeed made the right decision.
However I also need to remain vigilant and realistic so when something does inevitably go wrong, I will be strong enough to support the kids in whatever we need to do to make things right again.
So far, so good!
Challenge 2 – Cleaning and Tidying the House
We have packed up countless boxes and have moved them to the storage shed. We have also moved excess furniture and other items so the house looks tidier and more spacious.
I attacked the bathroom on the weekend and it looks like a different room, although the mouldy ceiling still remains. Hopefully this will be a distant memory by the end of next week when the painter we have engaged repaints the bathroom, toilet, laundry and kitchen.
Yes, there will be after photos once everything is done and sorted…
Challenge 3 – Make a Decision on our House
This week we signed with an agent who will market our house for us, which is a big step in the right direction. We still have a few things to do while we wait for the contract of sale to be sorted with our solicitor.
Our air conditioner is scheduled to be replaced next week, as mentioned already the painter will also be rejuvenating the house next week and we also need to desperately have our lawn mowed.
I have cleared out the front garden bed and have replanted with hardy agapanthus plants while I still need to tackle our overgrown patio in the back yard, not a job I’m particularly looking forward to!
I have also bought a few bits and pieces to help present our house, like new bathroom toiletry items, bath towels, table cloth and chair pads. I have also been spending a bit of time each day keeping the house clean and tidy so I don’t have to go to quite as much trouble again in time for the first open house.
Challenge 4 – Upgrade our Second Car
No movement on the car front as yet as we’ve been able to secure the loan of a car from my husband’s parents for the next few months. We’ll look at the car situation more closely once the house has been sold – that’s our priority tight now!
Challenge 5 – What do I do if I get Promoted?
I did end up hearing about the promotion late last week. I ranked second in the process so there is still a chance that I could snag a promotion if a position becomes available before the end of the year.
I’m pleased with this outcome as I proved I was suitable to move to the next level while relieving me of the stress of having to sort out childcare issues right away. There is still a chance it may happen but for now I can continue as I am and can ensure the kids are cared for before and after school.
Challenge 6 – Get Fit, Have “Me Time”, Be More Organised
Not so much progress in this domain in the past week, but as you can tell I have been pretty busy around the house lately…
I haven’t yet made it to the gym but, to be honest, the physical effort in cleaning, scrubbing, gardening and packing/moving has been enough for me! Once the main push of getting the house ready for sale is over and I’m back at work, I’ll look at the gym, but for now I’m getting quite a workout everyday at home!
I was supposed to meet with friends on Tuesday but had to cancel after Delilah and I both woke up with a headcold and could not make it. I did have a day out with my mother-in-law yesterday which was lovely and I’m looking forward to meeting up with some friends next week before I head back to work.
Organisation-wise, things have been motoring along. The real test will come when I return to work and try to balance everything again. For now I’m aiming to at least get the house sorted so that’s one less thing I need to worry about when I do return to my “real life”.
So that’s the latest. I’m hoping I’ll be able to show just how much progress we have made in my final This Is It post next week – until then, I better get back to it so I do have something positive to share!
