Sunday Session – Where Have I Heard That Before?

It’s time for some music on the blog so I’m linking up again with Thea from Do I Really Wanna Blog? for the Sunday Session.

This week, I want to play some songs that I think sound eerily similar – I wonder if anyone else will agree with me?

Even if you don’t agree, feel free to add your own suggestions for songs that beg the question – “where have I heard that before?”

The first set of songs that I think share something similar are “You Get What You Give” from the New Radicals and “Stay Beautiful” from The Last Goodnight. They are both on my favourites playlist on my ipod and, thanks to the power of shuffle, they came on one after the other the other day. Now, the songs start off sounding different but their choruses are eerily similar…they certainly share a similar vibe.

The second set of songs that also bear a striking musical similarity to each other are Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Madonna’s “Express Yourself”. Again, there are differences between them but I swear the first time I heard Lady Gaga’s song I kept thinking “Express Yourself”. What do you think?

So, do you agree with me or am I from another planet or something?

Oh yeah, I can hear the similarity in the first 2.
And the second pair….absolutely!! Noticed that myself! 🙂
Thanks for a great Sunday Session.

The similarities between the songs are quite striking – i guess there are only so many combinations of chords, melody and rhythm out there, so there is bound to be some overlap!

I must get a chance to listen to the other submissions, the weekend just went in a flash for me this week!
